Verse 2

Preach the Word.

Have you ever listened to a preacher and realized that after 10-15 minutes, Scripture has not once been referenced? Or perhaps a Scripture is read at the beginning, but it only served as a point of departure? But Paul’s clear mandate is to preach the Word. So that means open the Word and stay with the Word.

Preacher, you have nothing else to offer. Your stories, thoughts, ideas, and jokes are great. But make sure they are employed in the service of the Word. I know the temptation is to take the Word and bend it to your thoughts. But our commission is to take our thoughts and bend them to the Word. Therefore, take the Word and cut the meat right off the bone.
