1 Samuel 24-26

Daily Devotional from 1 Samuel 24--

Verse 5
And afterward David’s heart struck him, because he had cut off a corner of Saul’s robe.

David handled being wrongly accused and threatened with such humility. He refused to bring harm to Saul, even though he had every right to do so. He even felt guilty for considering to do harm to Saul, because he honored him. Even though David was deeply hurt, he chose humility and love when it would have been easy to choose revenge.

Have you ever been wrongly accused or treated unfairly? The wisdom of the world would tell you to fight back and take revenge, but the wisdom of the Lord would tell you to be humble and show love in the face of hurt. This doesn’t mean we live our lives without boundaries or let bad treatment continue—David didn’t return to the palace or close relationship with Saul after this encounter. But, in conflict, false accusations, and unfair treatment our response should always be in humility and love. It’s not an easy task, but when you feel like responding to unfair treatment with revenge, remember David’s humility and choose to let the Lord decide on your behalf.
