1 Chronicles 5-6

Daily Devotional from 1 Chronicles 6—

Verse 64
So the people of Israel gave the Levites the cities with their pasturelands.

When the Israelites took possession of the Promised Land, and the land was portioned out among the tribes, every tribe except Levi received an allotment of land. Was this a punishment to their tribe for some reason? Not at all. God required the other tribes to provide cities for the Levites to live in, and then they got to eat from the food that was offered to the Lord. The name Levi sounds like the Hebrew word for “attached”. Levi’s tribe was to be primarily attached to the Lord instead of the land, serving in His house, leading the people in worshipping Him. Theirs was a position of honor, and fully relying on God.

Let’s make sure our hearts are primarily attached to God – if we let Him take precedence over all else in our life, no matter what we do or where we go, He will provide for our needs.
