Luke 17
Daily Devotional from Luke 17--
Verses 4-5
"And if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him." The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”
There is a well-known Chinese proverb stating, “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.” We should learn from our mistakes. This is common sense.
But on the subject of forgiveness, Jesus teaches that “uncommon sense” is required. We must be willing to forgive once, twice, even seven times a day if the offender repents. The disciples can’t believe they would be able to forgive that much, so they ask for more faith.
It is sometimes difficult for us to forgive an offense — even once. (We need God to help us.) But God forgives without limit (1 John 1:9).
Isn’t it wonderful, and aren’t you glad, He does!
