Genesis 13
Daily devotional from Genesis 13--
Verses 14-16
Look as far as you can see in every direction–north and south, east and west. I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession. And I will give you so many descendants that, like the dust of the earth, they cannot be counted! NLT
Abraham was walking in God’s promise. He knew that wherever he went, God would remain faithful to his promises. If he had gone to the Jordan Valley instead of the land of Canaan, God’s plan would have prevailed. However, in continuity with the rest of Scripture, he took the earthly less and the heavenly more. This land became holy land because of the Holy God Abraham and his descendants served. It became the birthplace of the children of God–the people of Israel. This shows us that God cares more about the flourishing of his people than the flourishing of the land. What matters temporarily is provision, which God promises to take care of. What matters eternally is that our souls remain fertile and our hearts remain tender.
