Genesis 14
Daily Devotional from Genesis 14--
Verses 18-20
And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.) And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
God is a giver, and if we want to be more like Him, we need to be givers also.
Our tithes and offerings are one way to give that demonstrates our gratitude and dependence on Him, and helps support ministries on earth that advance His kingdom.
Some think that tithing is an Old Covenant requirement that doesn’t necessarily apply in this New Covenant age of grace. But notice in this scripture that the tithe was given by Abram (Abraham) long before the Old Covenant was established with Moses.
God promises to bless those who give (Malachi 4:10); but be careful of your motives.
Don’t give to get; but give to get to be able to give more.
