Genesis 31
Daily Devotional from Genesis 31—
After Jacob served Laban for twenty years, he lost Laban’s favor. At the Lord’s direction, Jacob took his wives, family and livestock and left secretly, lest Laban forcibly take back all that he had. Laban pursued Jacob; but God warned him not to say good or bad to Jacob. The outcome of their exchange was to part peaceably, leaving stones and a pillar to mark their agreement not to harm one another.
We find that the Lord sees when we are wronged in innocence and protects us. He intervened to repay Jacob when Laban would have sent him away with nothing and rebuked Laban who would have otherwise harmed him.
BlueLetterBible.org says this:
“…God is the patron of the oppressed; and those who are wronged and yet not ruined, cast down and yet not destroyed, must acknowledge him in their preservation and give him the glory of it. When quarrels happen, we should be willing to be friends again upon any terms: peace and love are such valuable jewels that we can scarcely buy them too dearly. Better sit down losers than go on in strife…for it is not in vain to trust in him.”
