Genesis 41

Daily Devotional from Genesis 41—

This chapter reminds me of James 4:6: “As the Scriptures say, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’” What really catches my attention here is the way Joseph rose to his place of honor.

Let’s back up a few chapters, when Joseph interpreted the dreams of two men in prison with him. He didn’t have a reason to interpret their dreams other than the fact that he was available and had the ability to do so. I don’t think he had any idea that this would get him out of jail eventually. Let’s fast forward again to chapter 41, where Joseph came and stood before Pharaoh. He didn’t stand before him begging for his freedom. He didn’t put on a musical number or attempt to entertain him with humor. He didn’t earn his way out of jail. He was pulled out of prison on the word of his cellmate who was touched by Joseph’s obedience to God, even though there didn’t seem to be anything for him to gain from it.

Let’s catch this heart posture that Joseph has.

Let’s walk humbly and obediently with our Savior, and trust that he has the best plan!
