Genesis 44
Daily Devotional from Genesis 44—
Verses 33
“Now therefore, please let your servant remain instead of the lad as a slave to my lord, and let the lad go up with his brothers.”
Unlike when they disposed of Joseph, his brothers were shocked and dismayed at Benjamin’s fate, tearing their clothes in horror. They trusted each other and did not try to blame anyone for the theft. They did not abandon their brother. Judah begged to be taken sacrificially in Benjamin’s stead and for all his brothers to go free. Joseph saw his brothers’ hearts were changed in these actions.
In how much greater measure has our Father done this for us? Jesus took our punishment in our place. He became the sacrificial lamb whose blood washed away our sin. He did this out of love for us and by His grace.
Dear Lord, when testing or unjust accusations come our way, may we be found humble and honorable before you. Help us to trust in you for the outcomes, in the reassurance that you will turn what was meant for evil, to the good you foreordained for us. (Genesis 50:20)
