Exodus 2
Daily Devotional from Exodus 2—
Verses 23-25
Years passed, and the king of Egypt died. But the Israelites continued to groan under their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their cry rose up to God. God heard their groaning, and he remembered his covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He looked down on the people of Israel and knew it was time to act. (NLT)
There may be some of us today who can relate with the groans of the Israelites in this chapter. At this point, they have been in slavery to the Egyptians for years. I’m sure each day felt endless, and all hope seemed lost. The Israelites found themselves in many unfortunate situations, but one thing they got right was their desperate cry to God for help.
Their groans and cries rose up to God, and he heard them. In the middle of their anguish, God remembered his promise and knew it was time to turn the situation around.
This passage is an encouraging reminder that no matter how messy our situation is or how long we’ve been in it, God is faithful. He hears our cries, and he keeps his promises. He sees our weariness, and is our strength.
