Daily Devotional from Exodus 38--
Verse 8
He made the basin of bronze and its stand of bronze, from the mirrors of the ministering women who ministered in the entrance of the tent of meeting.
Yes! They had hand mirrors in Bible times! They were made of highly-polished bronze, and women used them then as we use them now – to see how we look.
The basin was a large ritual wash basin, used by priests to wash their hands and feet before entering the Sanctuary or coming to the altar.
So check that out: the things that were used for vanity were donated to be used to create something used for purification. That is deep – how much time and money do you spend on making yourself “look good” vs. keeping your spiritual life pure?! Not that it’s bad to look nice, but there should be a balance and every once in awhile it’s good to just purge ourselves of personal vanity and invest in our spiritual purity!
