Genesis 18
Daily Devotional from Genesis 18--
Verses 3-5a
And [Abraham] said, “O Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant. Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree, while I bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves…”
Abraham humbly offered hospitality in the form of water to wash their feet, rest under the tree and a bite to eat. He then rushed to have Sarah make bread of fine flour. He had his servant quickly prepare a choice calf. He served these to them along with curds and milk. The food was more than “a morsel of bread.” It was the best bread and meat he could give.
“One ancient rabbi explained that this story illustrates how those who are righteous speak little, but do a lot.”*
Dear Lord, help us to humbly give to you, and to others, the finest we have, knowing that you freely and lovingly give to us. Amen
(Matt 10:8)
