Exodus 5
Daily Devotional from Exodus 5—
Verse 23
For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has done evil to this people, and you have not delivered your people at all.
Pharaoh rejected God’s request (spoken through Moses) to allow the children of Israel to celebrate a feast to Him in the wilderness. Pharaoh was so angered by the request he added additional requirements to their brick making quotas. They had to provide their own straw. And when they couldn’t meet their quotas, their foremen were beaten. So when they complained to Moses for making their lives tougher, he passed the complaint on to the Lord.
When we go through tough times, we pray and remind God of His promises. We may even question why God doesn’t answer our prayers. And as the children of Israel found out, circumstances may even get worse before they improve. But we know from the Scriptures, God kept His promise and ultimately delivered His children from Egyptian captivity. So, our takeaway should be to “keep the faith”. God is sovereign and always will keep His promises, at the right time and for our ultimate benefit.
