Genesis 38
Daily Devotional from Genesis 38—
Verse 26
Then Judah identified them and said, ‘She is more righteous than I, since I did not give her to my son Shelah.’
Judah did not honor his word to his widowed daughter-in-law, Tamar. In doing so, he made a fool of himself in more ways than one.
Have you ever made an agreement with someone and not held up your end of the deal? I know I’ve struggled with this before, and I’m sure we all can think of an instance where we have done so. This passage reminds us to honor our agreements. And this passage reminds us to not make snap judgments about others. Tamar was pregnant with Judah’s children, but he jumped to the conclusion that she deserved death. Both of these instances deal with being too quick in our decision making.
Before we agree to something or assume something about someone, let’s slow down and ask the Holy Spirit for the wisdom only He can give.
