Exodus 27

Daily Devotional from Exodus 27--

Verse 16
For the gate of the court there shall be a screen twenty cubits long, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, embroidered with needlework. It shall have four pillars and with them four bases.

In this chapter, we see very specific instructions for the bronze altar, outer court, and oil for the lamp of the Tabernacle. It may seem tedious to read through these instructions and maybe not important, but there’s something beautiful hidden here. The colors God chose for the entrance of the tent were intentional. The tabernacle didn’t have an open gate, it had a curtain you had to walk through.

In scripture, blue often represents heaven, red = sin, and white linen = purity. As the Israelites walked through the gate, they were hit with a visual reminder that they were entering God’s space, wherein heaven and earth collide.

We are now walking tabernacles. We are the space where heaven and earth collide. God had specific plans for his dwelling place, and that has not changed now that we’re his temple. Others will know we are disciples of Christ by our fruit—are we obedient to his word?

What instruction is the Holy Spirit asking you to follow?
