Genesis 29
Daily Devotional from Genesis 29—
Verse 25
And in the morning, behold, it was Leah! And Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?”
Jacob made a deal to marry Rachel, but woke up to find he got Leah instead. How unjust! But not really. Jacob, who deceived his father Isaac to steal the blessing due his older brother Esau, is complaining that he was deceived, but he is just reaping what he has sown.
It is a law of nature — the law of sowing and reaping. If you plant corn, you reap corn. If you deceive, expect to be deceived. If you sin, expect judgment.
Fortunately for us, God does not always collect payment due (judgment) at the time of transaction (when we fail). He often provides grace so we don’t suffer the consequences due us. We don’t deserve it, but he gives it anyway to accomplish His purposes.
How thankful I am for this grace from my loving Father!
