Exodus 13
Daily Devotional from Exodus 13--
Verse 3, 9, 16
Then Moses said to the people, “Remember this day in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery, for by a strong hand the Lord brought you out from this place.… And it shall be to you as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the law of the Lord may be in your mouth. For with a strong hand the Lord has brought you out of Egypt…It shall be as a mark on your hand or frontlets between your eyes, for by a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.”
When an idea is repeated in scripture, it should register as important. Here the idea repeated is to remember what the LORD did in Egypt and by whose hand they were delivered. They were to mark themselves on their hands and heads, in order to remember whose they are.
The Lord has delivered you. You did not deliver yourself. It was by his mighty hand you have been saved. Sometimes we need physical reminders of what God did to help us remember in those moments we may forget (the Israelites forgot often). How will you remind yourself of what God has done?
