Exodus 22
Daily Devotional from Exodus 22—
This chapter addresses many aspects of right behavior and reflects what Jesus says:
“And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Matthew 22:37-39
If we are loving our neighbors, we will not steal from them or neglect what they entrust to us. We will not take advantage of them or deliberately harm them. We will not mistreat widows, orphans, the poor or strangers. If we are loving God, we will not withhold from Him our first fruits, tithes and obedience. We will be consecrated to God.
Consecration is setting ourselves apart from sin and worldly actions, choosing instead to live in purity and holiness, dedicated to God and devoted to Him above all.
Good news! We don’t have to accomplish these by mustering up our strength and gumption. He has given us the Holy Spirit, who guides, comforts and empowers us. (John 16:13, Rom 8:9,36, Gal 5:16).
“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us reveals the fragrance of the knowledge of Him in every place.” 2 Cor 2:14 (NASB)
