Nehemiah 3-5

Daily Devotional from Nehemiah 5--

Verse 11
Return to them this very day their fields, their vineyards, their olive orchards, and their houses, and the percentage of money, grain, wine, and oil that you have been exacting from them.

God cares about those in need. In Chapter 5 we see that many needy Israelites were being taken advantage of by their own people! Nehemiah was extremely troubled by this, and he knew that God wanted the Israelites to take care of each other—not only for the well-being of the nation, but as an example to the surrounding nations.

We see so many people in this situation today. Perhaps you have been taken advantage of. Maybe even by a brother or sister in Christ. God desires that we care for the disadvantaged. If you know about someone being taken advantage of, stand up and help them with whatever situation they are facing. This is how we can show the love of God to others—by defending the poor, the widow, and the orphan (i.e., the lowest in our society) and not letting others take advantage of them.
