Matthew 26
Daily Devotional from Matthew 26--
Verses 7-9
A woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? For this could have been sold for a large sum and given to the poor.”
An unnamed woman, perhaps someone just like you or me, came up to Jesus while he was
eating and poured a very expensive ointment on His head. Other translations say it was a
costly ointment or an expensive perfume. What it was belonged to this woman, and she
poured all of it on Jesus. She paid no attention to those who criticized her; she gave us a
picture of extravagant and costly worship.
As I read these words I have to ask myself, am I giving the King of Kings, the Lord of
Lords, and Jesus, my Savior, extravagant and costly worship? As I approach Him today, I
want Jesus to know that I value the privilege of costly worship. As we approach Jesus
today, can we give Him just a little more extravagant worship? It will make a difference.
It certainly made a difference for an unnamed worshiper in this passage.
