Mark 8
Daily Devotional from Mark 8—
Verse 17
And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened?”
How dense could the disciples be?
Jesus had recently provided bread enough to feed 5,000+ followers with 12 basketfuls remaining, and then enough for 4000+ with 7 basketfuls remaining. But now the disciples were hungry because they had forgotten to take bread with them on a trip with Jesus. They were more interested in where they would get their next meal than in what Jesus was trying to teach them.
If Jesus could work miracles to feed the multitudes, then the disciples didn’t need to worry about the lack of bread. Jesus is the source.
We are often just as dense as the disciples. We often get anxious about what we are lacking. But throughout Scripture we are taught that our spiritual need is more important than the physical. God supplies both, but….
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these (other necessary) things will be supplied (Matthew 6:33).
