Isaiah 37-38

Daily Devotional from Isaiah 37--

Verse 20
So now, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the Lord.

The king of Assyria and his army were at the gates of Jerusalem. King Hezekiah was distraught and he went to prayer to ask for rescue. He needed God needed to intervene.

I was intrigued about some of the reasons he used to “convince” God to come to his rescue - “that all the kingdoms of earth may know you alone are God.” Later he basically tells God that He should rescue them because, if they are dead, they can’t proclaim God’s glory (38:18).
Jerusalem didn’t stand a chance against this army, but God answered Hezekiah’s prayer. The Assyrian army left to fight a more serious enemy.

When we pray, while we still live, let’s follow Hezekiah’s model and ask God to answer our prayers - that we would have stories to tell others of His power and goodness, and bring glory to His name.
