Isaiah 45-46
Daily Devotional from Isaiah 45--
Verse 7
I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the Lord, who does all these things.
This is a wild and crazy verse. First time I discovered these words, I was a bit aghast. God creates darkness and calamity?? Seems a bit sinister. But then I thought about it, and it became quite a comfort. Because, you see, when you create something, you get to be the boss of it. When you author something, you are its authority. So, if God authored darkness and calamity, it means HE has ultimate veto rights, and not the devil. Despite popular imagination, there is no competition. That realm, along with every other, belongs solely to a kind and merciful God. And, for that, we should all breathe a collective sigh of relief.
