Jeremiah 41-42

Daily Devotional from Jeremiah 42—

Verse 10
If you will remain in this land, then I will build you up and not pull you down; I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I relent of the disaster that I did to you.

While it’s true that God’s gifts are free, and we can do nothing to earn forgiveness or salvation, our relationship with God is conditional. Meaning, He’s given us some significant “If…then…” statements.

Like this one in Romans 10:9: “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, [then] you will be saved.” Here’s another: “If you love me, [then] you will keep my commandments.” (Jesus, in John 14:15)

The people in Jeremiah’s day had given up on their love for God. He offered them peace, protection, provision. But they were still totally set on doing their own thing. Let us daily stir up our love for Jesus, believe in him and his word, and do what he asks us to do, as a way of showing our love for him. Then it will go well with us.
