Lamentations 1-2

Daily Devotional from Lamentations 2--

Verse 17a
The Lord has done what he purposed; he has carried out his word, which he commanded long ago; he has thrown down without pity…

Well, Jeremiah spent 50 chapters’ worth of sermons telling the people of Judah that Babylon would attack and take them captive for the nation’s repeated sins against God. And here we are, after the exile, mourning the great devastation that has befallen Jerusalem and Judah. The Lord had done what he said he would do. That’s the thing about God – we can trust him to keep his word, to be faithful even when we are not.

Another promise he made to the Israelites was that he would always keep a remnant of them alive. They were his chosen people. A promise he has made for us today is that “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

Praise God that he is trustworthy. He is faithful. He doesn’t change.
