Ezekiel 43-44

Daily Devotional from Ezekiel 44--

Verse 23
They shall teach my people the difference between the holy and the common.

You will hear well-meaning people exclaim “holy cow.” It’s typically an innocent phrase spoken in jest. But do those two words even go together? Sometimes we need to be taught (or at least reminded) that there is a difference. The word “holy” denotes that something is unique and utterly special. It’s the diamond ring and the rare gemstone. The word “common?” Well, it’s the run-of-the-mill, normal, everyday things. Kind of like, well, cows. But I’m afraid our casual use of the word, if we’re not careful, can cause God’s use of the word to lose its luster.

And when he calls his Spirit “Holy” we should tremble; when he calls his Word “Holy” we should quake; and when he calls his people “Holy” we should snap to attention and believe every word he says. But we need to be taught that there is a difference between the holy and the common.
