1 Kings 20-21

Daily Devotional from 1 Kings 21--

Verses 27-29 (NIV)
When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went around meekly. Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite: “Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son.”

King Ahab was extremely wicked. His wife was even more so. They constantly brought the anger of the Lord against Israel. Ahab deserved God’s judgment and wrath without mercy because of the evil he inflicted and acted out of. Yet we see God handing out mercy when Ahab finally humbled himself—however, there were still consequences that lasted generations.

If God can give mercy to the most wicked king of Israel, he certainly has mercy and grace ready to lavish on you. And if God can lavish that kind of mercy on Ahab, and lavish it on us, we can be ready to lavish it on others.

Ask the Holy Spirit today to help you accept his mercy and grace and ask him to reveal opportunities to lavish his grace on other people who don’t deserve it!
