2 Kings 22-23

Daily Devotional from 2 Kings 22--

Verses 10-11 (NIV)
Then Shaphan the secretary informed the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read from it in the presence of the king. When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his robes.

King Josiah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. As he was working out payment for some workers, the Books of the Law were found in the temple. They had been lost. None of the kings before him knew the words of the Lord and failed in their kingly duties to lead with it.

When the words were read aloud, Josiah tore his robes in anguish and lament—because he realized how far Judah (and all of Israel) had drifted from their God.

Some of us (myself included) keep the Word of God hidden under all the stuff of life. We forget that it’s there and live as if it’s never been part of who we are.

God's word is a precious gift. It reveals Jesus, the giver of life, the salvation of our souls, our messiah. May we have the humility of Josiah and recognize how far we’ve drifted and turn back towards the King of Kings.
