Matthew 16
Daily Devotional from Matthew 16--
Verse 1
And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
Jesus had been working miracles throughout the land - healing cripples, casting out demons, cleansing lepers, restoring sight to the blind, feeding thousands of people with a few loaves of bread and fish (twice!), even raising the dead. Yet the Pharisees still had the audacity to ask Jesus for a sign of His authority. They wanted Him to perform a miracle for them, on demand, or they wouldn’t accept His ministry.
He wouldn’t, and they were offended. They had the wrong motives. And even with the proper motives, Jesus is not like a vending machine where we can deposit a coin (a prayer) and expect a candy bar (our miracle) to fall out. God has a purpose and a plan, and sometimes what we want doesn’t fit.
How many today walk away offended when God doesn’t provide a miracle they desperately seek? Instead, trust Him and give Him glory for all that He has done.
