Matthew 20
Matthew 20:15
Do you begrudge my generosity?
Grace is scandalous business. Especially when someone else gets it when you think you’re the one that deserved it. Oh, you get blessed alright, but somebody else gets blessed just as much as you. But it’s a scandal when they didn’t earn it like you. Why should they get the same treatment? If that’s our attitude, then we have yet to understand grace.
We cry out, “It’s not fair!”
You’re right. It’s not fair. And praise God it’s not. Because if it was fair, we’d all be rightly punished for eternity. Lost and without hope. That’s fair. So, we don’t want fair. We want grace. And grace is not fair. So, the next time you begrudge it in another person’s life, stop right then and there, and remember that neither have you earned a shred of God’s grace.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one many boast.”
