John 21
John 21:7
When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment… and threw himself into the sea.
I love that picture. Utter abandon!
He put on his coat and dove into the sea. Clearly this man lost all sight of himself. But he didn’t mind looking like a fool when it came to Jesus. David was the same way. When criticized for his love for God, he said, "I’ll become even more undignified than this."
Sometimes we’re so concerned about what people think that we never lose sight of ourselves. But the point where we lose sight of ourselves is the point where worship begins.
Next time Jesus shows up on the shore, do yourself a favor: grab your coat and throw yourself into the sea. You’ll never be your true self until you abandon yourself in worship of Jesus.
