2 Corinthians 2
2 Corinthians 2:4
I wrote to you out of much affliction and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to cause you pain but to let you know the abundant love that I have for you.
There’s this new online trend right now called, “cancel culture.” If someone says or does something, or posts something that you find objectionable, you can call them out, denounce them, and in a variety of ways “cancel them.” You can do this by muting them, unfriending them, or boycotting their work. You can try to take away their platform or just declare them damaged goods. You can give them the #RIPtreatment, and say, “you’re over!” You don’t like what they did, therefore you don’t need to deal with them anymore. Canceled!
But, as you can see from verse 4, this knee-jerk way of handling problems finds no place in the Christian community. Sometimes dealing with people can be difficult. But as we look to our Savior and realize that he should’ve canceled long ago, then perhaps we can find the same grace to extend to others.
