1 Timothy 2
1 Timothy 2:3
This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
God has desire. Think of that. He craves, He longs, He thirsts. He wants people to be saved. He wants people to know who He is. And that extends to every soul on the planet. And sometimes desire can lead to pain, especially if it goes unmet. The Lord has given us a free will. A will that is not coerced. A will that can deviate and go astray. He wants all people to be saved, but, as we can see, not all people are. And that, for God, creates pain.
And that, for us should create compassion—an ability to suffer with God. Do you hurt for souls? Do you desire to see them saved? I believe this is the heartbeat of effective intercession and a viable work of evangelism. And it starts with craving, longing, thirsting, right alongside with God.
