2 Timothy 2
2 Timothy 2:24
The Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome.
Do you ever dream about having the right comeback? Do you ever imagine pinning your opponent to the wall? Oh, how satisfying that would be. So, in the moment you scramble for the right words, hoping to register the decisive blow.
One time I can remember engaging in an argument. Let’s call it a debate. A heated debate. This person and I were getting to know one another. And we struck up a lively exchange. We began trading barbs and exchanging blows. And I landed a point that kind of sealed the deal. It felt good. I won the fight! But (and here’s what I didn’t expect) I lost the friend. He conceded the point and the relationship went cold. That day I realized that winning arguments is not nearly as satisfying as winning friends.
