Hebrews 12
Hebrews 12:28-29
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
Sometimes we think worship is a time of singing songs led by a trendy band. But, no, no, no, worship is so much more. Read these verses slowly and meditatively to understand all that’s at stake. He’s provided an entrance into his eternal kingdom and everything else will be consumed. When we apprehend this reality, we are left so dumbfounded that a deep sense of worship settles over our heart. We are stunned by his grace, affected by his goodness, and set ablaze with eternal gratitude because we know how undeserving we are. I think worship begins in this deep and silent place. And once that’s established, then we can add the words and music and actually have a worship service. If it’s not for the deep and silent place, though, I’m afraid it’s just singing songs.
