James 4
James 4:15
Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will love and do this or that.”
Sometimes people can boast about their good intentions.
“Nothing can tear me from this job.”
“I will always be a part of this church.”
“I will never…”
“I will always…”
“Yada, yada, yada”
Wouldn’t it be better to preface such comments with “If the Lord wills”? And if it happens, then it happens. But why do we feel compelled to verbalize our good intentions? Jesus says in Matthew 5:37, “anything more than this comes from evil.” Tell you what… keep the boasting to yourself and just try living one day at a time. It might be that you do as you thought you would. But, on the chance that God had something else in store, at least you don’t have to go back and eat crow. Let life simply play out before you try to predict the future.
