1 Peter 5:12
I have written briefly to you, exhorting and declaring that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.
 
Sometimes we think grace lets us off the hook. We can just take it easy and coast our way through life. Nothing can be further from the truth. Take another look at verse 12. Grace requires effort. But isn’t that works-based? Not at all. Listen to how Dallas Willard puts it, “Grace is not opposed to effort, it is opposed to earning.” Do you see the difference? Willard continues, “Earning is an attitude, effort is an action.” Grace doesn’t put you to sleep. It awakens every cell in your being. Nothing brings you alive quite like grace.
