Joshua 23-24
Daily Devotional from Joshua 24--
Verses 14a & 15a,c (CSB)
“Therefore, fear the Lord and worship him in sincerity and truth...But if it doesn’t please you to worship the Lord, choose for yourselves today: Which will you worship... As for me and my family, we will worship the Lord.”
Have you ever heard the song “Gotta Serve Somebody” by Bob Dylan? Throughout the song he mentions people from all walks of life and argues that no matter who you are, you are going to serve someone: “It might the devil and it might be the Lord...but you’re going to serve somebody...”
In our passage here, Joshua is saying the same thing to the Israelites. They have a choice—they can continue to walk with God who has been faithful to them, or they can choose to follow other gods. Joshua makes it clear what his family is choosing.
The same question is posed to us—who will your family be serving? We are always tempted to turn away (and we will see in Judges what Israel eventually chose) and God is asking that we keep our eyes on him. No matter what, you WILL serve someone...your choice is who.
