Nehemiah 12-13

Daily Devotional from Nehemiah 13—

Verse 18
Did not your fathers act in this way, and did not our God bring all this disaster on us and on this city? Now you are bringing more wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath.

Throughout Israel’s history, they neglected to follow God’s instructions for righteous living. The reading and teaching of the Law was neglected and ignored. This resulted in intermarriage, worship of false idols, neglect of the Sabbath and proper Temple worship, strife, warfare, and judgement.

But God did (and does) not give up on His people. He kept intervening in their history, sending prophets - calling for His people to repent, clean house, and return to Him. He forgave them when they did.

God still intervenes today. When we accept His gift of salvation, He forgives and expects us (and helps us) to change - to turn away from destructive practices and follow a new path - one that leads to everlasting joy.

Accept His gift today, and afterwards clean house. Stop doing what you know is wrong. Follow a new path and cry out for His help along the way. He will!
