Esther 1-5
Daily Devotional from Esther 3--
Verses 5-6
When Haman saw that Mordecai was not bowing down or paying him homage, he was filled with rage. And when he learned of Mordecai’s ethnic identity, it seemed repugnant to Haman to do away with Mordecai alone. He planned to destroy all of Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout Ahasuerus’s kingdom.
The tale of Haman is such a cautionary tale. Everyone loved him. Everyone paid him homage. Everyone saw him as such a success--even the King who promoted him to a very prominent position.
Except for one man.
Haman was so infuriated with Mordecai’s disrespect that it blinded him to everyone else’s adoration. His anger was so great that Mordecai’s death wasn’t enough. Mordecai’s entire people group had to be exterminated. Haman was probably thinking that Mordecai was showing disrespect because he was Jewish.
Is there a person’s opinion of you that you can’t seem to let go of? Does their dislike, disrespect, dishonor of you consume your thoughts? Do you find yourself hoping for their demise or downfall?
It’s time to let that go. Give it to Jesus. Walk in forgiveness. Don’t let the sun go down on your anger and ask the Holy Spirit to help you.
