Job 25-27
Daily Devotional from Job 25—
Verses 5-6
Behold, even the moon is not bright, and the stars are not pure in his [God’s] eyes; how much less man, who is a maggot, and the son of man, who is a worm!
This was spoken by Bildad. Boy, did he have it wrong. Did he not know? Man was created in the IMAGE of GOD. How could he then call man a maggot? David pondered the greatness of God compared to man when he asked in Psalm 8, “What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” But David’s conclusion was correct: “Yet you have made him a little lower than the angels and crowned him with glory and honor.”
It is possible to be humble before God, and yet confident in our place as His children and heirs. The world will try to tell you that you are a worthless maggot. Don’t listen to them. Listen to the words of the prophet Isaiah, spoken to each of us, from the Lord: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. (Isaiah 43:1)
