Isaiah 51-52
Daily Devotional from Isaiah 51--
Verse 3
For the Lord comforts Zion; he comforts all her waste places and makes her wilderness like Eden, her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the voice of song.
This verse reminds me of the movie “Moana”, in which the main characters fight a giant lava monster to restore the heart of the island. (Spoiler: The lava monster turns out to be the island without her heart.) Once the heart is restored, all the stone that made up the monster falls away and life sprouts anew.
Israel was a spiritual wasteland. Generation after generation hardened their hearts toward God. Yet, God still comforts those who walk away from him. He could have given up on Israel and started over with someone else.
Your heart may feel like a desert, like that lifeless lava monster, an empty place where nothing can thrive - where maybe even God can’t live.
God didn’t give up on Israel, and he won’t give up on you. The Spirit wants to make your desert heart a garden, teeming with life. But it begins with letting him break up the hard ground and till the soil.
