Jeremiah 7-8
Daily Devotional from Jeremiah 7--
Verse 20
Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, upon man and beast, upon the trees of the field and the fruit of the ground; it will burn and not be quenched.
In John 18, after Peter defended Jesus with a sword, Jesus said, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”
The “cup” Jesus referred to is the justified wrath of God against sinners. (The wages of sin is death.)
Throughout the Book of Jeremiah, we see examples of God’s wrath. The wrath of God is a difficult thing to think about. But Jesus drank that cup for us. God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. (John 3:17)
We are invited to leave the path of sin and return to our merciful God, who will forgive us if we do.
We must allow Jesus to drink the cup of wrath for us, or we will one day drink it ourselves.
