John 1
Daily Devotional from John 1—
Verse 48
Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
Now, we don’t know what was going on with Nathanael when he was under the fig tree. Maybe he was crying out to God, maybe he was worshipping, and maybe he was angry—we will never know. But what stands out to us, and what stood out to Nathanael, was that Jesus saw him where he was.
Not only did Jesus see Nathanael—He sees you. He hears you. He knows you, even before you knew Him. When you cry out in anguish, when you worship full of joy, and when you shout out in anger—Jesus sees you. I think that is one of the most beautiful truths about Him. He’s not a far-off God, but someone who is near to us and draws close to us.
Today, whether you are experiencing great joy or great sorrow, remember that Jesus sees you and He is with you.
