Psalm 119
Daily Devotional from Psalm 119—
Verse 18
Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things out of your law.
Do you know why Psalm 119 is so long? Because it’s an acrostic. Each stanza starts with a different letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The ESV bible, at least, has each stanza labeled by the appropriate letter, starting with “Aleph” and ending with “Taw”. And much of the theme throughout this beautiful poem is centered on the author’s love of the Word of God.
I regularly pray the prayer in verse 18 when I read my Bible, “God, open my eyes and help me see and understand your Word and how it applies to my life, today!” – it’s a very appropriate prayer! His word IS filled with wonderful things if we have eyes to see them! Ask God to help you see what He wants you to see in His word today. Then, if you feel inspired, sit down and write a poem about how wonderful God’s word is to you!
