Verse 6

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands…

I recently started my very first fire (in a fire pit)! Now, I didn’t set up the logs or the kindling, that was done for me. All I needed to do was to give the fire the right environment. I lit the kindling and placed it in a good spot—-and…nothing. After a few attempts, what helped it catch was blowing air into the embers so that they would glow hot and burn. The warm embers needed to be fanned for the flame to catch and start burning. 

We already have the gift of God. We’ve been given grace, salvation, and the Holy Spirit. The fire of our heart has been given everything it needs for life with God. Our choice is whether we want it to stay embers or fan it into a beautiful fire through communion with the Spirit, listening to his voice, and loving others well.
