Psalm 127
Daily Devotional from Psalm 127—
Verse 2
It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.
Sleep. A blessing which sometimes seems a curse. When I am reading a really good book, I bemoan the fact that I can’t stay awake until I’m done! Yet, at the end of a long and weary day, laying my head down on that pillow is the best feeling in the world.
Sleep is a gift from God. Our internal organs get to take a break from working, our mind shuts down, and our bodies reset and heal. God created our bodies to need sleep every night. He also created us to need rest every week. But we tend to work work work and then VACATION. If we followed His plan for a natural rhythm of 6 days on, 1 day off, our spirits wouldn’t be so starved for those vacation times. That’s the result of “anxious toil”. If you don’t practice a regular Sabbath, give it a try! It’s a gift from our loving Father.
