Proverbs 26
Daily Devotional from Proverbs 26—
Verse 11
Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.
I have seen my dog eat her vomit, as well as other unmentionable substances – it is utterly disgusting. So why do they do it? Because to a dog, it simply looks like food that tastes good – and it goes down a little easier the second time.
The teacher here likens our follies to that vomit though! Sure, we mess up from time to time; we make mistakes, wrong choices, dumb ideas. But we have a greater capacity to recognize our folly for what it is, and choose to learn from it! Exercise wisdom. See your mess-ups for what they are, see that they do NOT taste good the second time, and make a change! We can get stuck at times doing the same old thing that we know is disgusting, but that’s why we have God’s Word and a community surrounding us, to encourage us in a better way.
