Genesis 7-9
Daily Devotional from Genesis 9--
Verse 13
I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
Verse 16
When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.
Our verses today say that after the flood, God will see the rainbow that He created and remember His covenant with mankind. Do you think that God really needs help remembering his promises? Of course not! Signs are for our benefit.
Signs can have many purposes. Signs can provide information - such as road signs that point us in the right direction, or help with traffic flow and safety. Signs can be used to “market” or to “show support.” Or they can be used to remind us of something important. A wedding ring can remind a husband and wife of the vows they made to each other. And it is a sign to others that the wearer is in a committed relationship. A rainbow can remind us of the love, mercy and grace that God shows toward his creation.
The point of the story is that God wants us to remember Him and how knowing Him impacts our lives - today and for all eternity. Follow the GC Scripture reading plan and get to know Him better. Check out His promises and all He has done for you. Remember His promises; He guarantees to keep them. Lean on them and on Him. He wants you to!
