Joshua 17-19
Daily Devotional from Joshua 17—
Verses 17-18
Then Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, “You are a numerous people and have great power. You shall not have one allotment only, but the hill country shall be yours, for though it is a forest, you shall clear it and possess it to its farthest borders. For you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.”
Ephraim and Manasseh saw obstacles here. Some of their allotted land was already cleared and move-in ready, but much was still forested. They would have to make room for farm and pastureland. In addition, the habitable land was still inhabited – by people with the fiercest warfare technology!
Hold your hand two inches in front of your face. Can you see anything beyond it? No. But is your hand bigger than you? No! Sometimes the obstacles in our path look insurmountable. But that’s just because they are right in front of us. Joshua spoke the words that were needed in the moment to give courage and faith to his people, “You shall clear it…you shall drive them out.” When your obstacles seem too big, listen to the voices that speak God’s truth and plan to you, and then take faith steps until you see those obstacles disappear. You can do it!
